Every year, communities around the world come together from November 25 to December 10 to take part in the 16 Days of Activism to End Gender Based Violence. At Kneehill Regional FCSS, we stand with this movement and with every person who has been affected by violence, fear, or control in their relationships, homes, schools, or workplaces.
Gender based violence does not always look the way people expect. It does not only show up as physical harm. It often appears in subtle and quiet ways that are harder to see, but equally damaging to a person’s safety and well-being.
The Forms of Violence We Do Not Always Notice
Emotional Abuse: This can include put downs, humiliation, threats, manipulation, guilt, or constant criticism.
Psychological Abuse: This may involve isolation, controlling where someone goes, monitoring messages, gaslighting, or creating an environment where the person feels helpless.
Financial Abuse: This includes taking someone’s money, limiting how they spend it, preventing them from working, or forcing them to hand over income.
Digital Abuse: Technology can be used to track, monitor, intimidate, or harass.
Spiritual or Cultural Abuse: This involves using someone’s beliefs or traditions to control or shame them.
Physical Abuse: Any use of physical force including pushing, restraining, or harming someone’s body.
